Guide

Do I need a website if I have a Facebook page?

Lots of small businesses in Leamington and across Warwickshire run everything from Facebook. Here's when that's enough, and when a website makes a real difference.

Short answer: Facebook is great for staying in touch with people who already know you. A website is how new customers find you on Google and decide to trust you.

What Facebook does well

  • It's free and quick to set up.
  • It's a good place to share news, offers and photos with existing customers.
  • Customers can message you easily.

What a Facebook page can't do

  • Show up well on Google. When someone searches for a cleaner, café or dog groomer near them, Google mostly shows websites and Google Business Profiles, not Facebook posts.
  • Reach people who don't use Facebook. Plenty of your potential customers rarely or never use it.
  • Give you control. Facebook decides who sees your posts and can change the rules at any time. Your website is yours.
  • Answer questions clearly. Prices, services, the areas you cover and how to book get buried in old posts.
  • Look established. Many customers check for a website before they trust a business with their home, pet or event.

The best approach: use both

Keep your Facebook page for news and conversations, and link it to a simple website that answers every question a new customer has. Then set up a free Google Business Profile that points to your website, so you show up on Google Maps.

What a simple website costs

It doesn't need to be expensive. My Calling Card is a single page with your services, contact details, opening hours and a map for £199, live within three days. My website cost guide explains the costs in more detail.
